Arvind Khanna wears many hats – philanthropist, social sector worker and businessman. He is widely recognised for his thought leadership and social commitment while being a successful entrepreneur. Working closely with leaders in the areas of community issues, rural development, governance, policy and economics, Arvind is enthusiastic about being a part of the new thought process that is rapidly changing the socio political and economic dynamic of the country. He firmly believes that this change will be spearheaded by youth from across the board.
Arvind set up an NGO called Umeed in 1997 to help the disadvantaged of rural and semi-urban Punjab. Designed to help those who were largely ignored by institutions, Umeed today supports people in need from all walks of life.
It focuses on women’s empowerment, skill development, entrepreneurship, connecting people to employment opportunities and cohesive community development. Umeed’s footprint covers nearly 550 villages and has so far supported over 12 million people through its various programmes.
Arvind is currently a Member of BJP and in the past has served as the member of legislative assembly from Sangrur and from Dhuri.
